Home » India vs Pakistan, Asian Games 2026 Gold Medal Match Preview: All Eyes on Nisshin

The Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket competition is heading towards its biggest match. India will face Pakistan in the gold medal match on Saturday, October 3, at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. The match begins at 10:00 AM IST, or 1:30 PM local time.

It will be the first India-Pakistan men’s cricket final at the Asian Games. India are chasing a second straight gold after their 2023 title, while Pakistan have reached the final for the first time and will be looking for their first gold medal in the event.

Match Details and Where to Watch

The gold medal match will be played in the T20 format at Korogi Sports Park. The toss is scheduled before the 10:00 AM IST start. In India, the match will be shown live on Sony Sports Network, with streaming available on SonyLIV.

The weather will also be worth watching. Rain has already caused major disruption to the men’s cricket schedule in Nisshin, including the quarterfinal stage, so both teams will want a full game on Saturday.

How India Reached the Final

India did not get a chance to play their quarterfinal against Afghanistan because rain washed out the match. They moved into the semifinals on the basis of their superior T20I ranking.

There was no such uncertainty against Sri Lanka. India produced a strong all-round display and won the semifinal by 124 runs.

Batting first, India made 169/7. Ishan Kishan was the main contributor, finishing unbeaten on 80 from 46 balls. The left-hander controlled the innings after India lost early wickets.

Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also made an impact, scoring 38 from 21 balls on his Asian Games debut.

The bowlers then finished the job. Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets in the opening over, while

Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma also played major roles. Sri Lanka were bowled out for only 45 in 9.5 overs. The result showed that India can win on a surface that is not easy for stroke-making.

Pakistan’s Road to the Final

Pakistan also advanced from the quarterfinal stage without playing because their match against Hong Kong was abandoned by rain. Like India, they progressed because of their higher ranking.

Their semifinal against Bangladesh was another rain-affected contest and was reduced to 13 overs per side. Bangladesh made 111/7, with Towhid Hridoy scoring 42 from 25 balls. Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Sufyan Moqim was the standout bowler, taking 3/26.

Pakistan then had some early trouble during the chase, slipping to 53/4. Abdul Samad changed the game with an unbeaten 30 from 15 balls, while Hasan Nawaz stayed not out on 27. Pakistan reached the target with nine balls remaining to seal a six-wicket win.

Key Players and Battles

Ishan Kishan will be one of India’s biggest batting threats after his unbeaten 80 in the semifinal. Pakistan’s spin options, including Abrar Ahmed and Sufyan Moqim, could have a major role on a surface that has offered turn and uneven bounce.

At the other end, India’s pace attack has Jasprit Bumrah, while Arshdeep Singh gives Shreyas Iyer another left-arm option. Pakistan will look towards Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub and its middle order to handle India’s bowling pressure.

Bumrah against Pakistan’s top order could be one of the defining contests. His ability to find movement and control the scoring in the powerplay could put early pressure on Farhan and Saim Ayub.

Pitch and Conditions Could Matter

The Nisshin surface has already shown that it can make batting difficult. Ishan Kishan described the conditions as tricky after the semifinal and noted that Pakistan also have a strong spin attack.

That could make the toss important. Captains may have to think carefully about whether to bat first or chase, especially if rain or a wet outfield affects the conditions before the match.

India vs Pakistan: What Is at Stake?

India enter the final as defending Asian Games champions, while Pakistan are appearing in the men’s cricket final for the first time. The match also gives both teams a chance to finish the tournament with gold after weather disrupted much of the knockout stage.

For India, another victory would mean back-to-back Asian Games gold medals. For Pakistan, a win would bring their first men’s cricket gold at the Asian Games.

With two contrasting semifinal wins, strong bowling attacks and several players in good form, the gold medal match has all the ingredients for a close contest. The bigger question now is whether Nisshin’s weather allows India and Pakistan to settle the gold medal on the field.
